3-2-1 Blast Off! #WonderChallenge

Greetings from the North Carolina Science Festival here at Morehead Planetarium and Science Center, based on the UNC Chapel Hill campus. We’re super excited that our friends at the NC Science Olympiad will be hosting the 2020 National Tournament, and we’re thrilled to host this month’s Wonder Challenge: 3-2-1 Blast Off!

This July marks the 50th anniversary of humankind landing on our neighbor in space – the moon! To accomplish this monumental task, astronauts bound for the moon trained extensively and learned celestial navigation at Morehead Planetarium and Science Center.

Join us in celebrating this milestone by creating a rocket at home and sharing the results of your launch on social media. Whether your rocket is powered by a stomp, a chemical reaction, or something else – can you engineer your rocket to fly better on its second launch?

Use #WonderChallenge and #Apollo50 on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram to show us your homemade rockets and how you improved your design after an initial test run. Sharing your rocket will enter you in a drawing to win a Space Lover’s Prize Pack. Follow the @ncscifest feed throughout the month to see some of our favorite kinds of rockets.
